Abstract:

Background and Aim: Dentists can reduce errors of bridge's framework through controlling and reducing errors during IMPRESSION. Open tray splitting IMPRESSION is a method that it's precision is questionable. The aim of this study was evaluation of framework's marginal gap produced in direct IMPRESSION with and without splinting.Materials and Methods: This experimental in vitro study was done on two parallel implants (regular Neck ITI), that inserted on left premolar and molar region mandibular model. Ten final IMPRESSIONs by open tray and ten final IMPRESSIONs with splinted technique were made. Marginal gap was measured with direct view method. We used SPSS 18 and T-Test for analysis. Results: mean gap in splint and conventional methods were (43.87±11.35) µ and (87.30±34.50) µ, respectively. There was a significant difference between two methods (P<0.001). Also the marginal gap in distal and mesial retainer with splint method were significantly lower than conventional method (P<0.05).Conclusion: Marginal gap in splint method was lower. Because marginal integrity level of splint method was high, for final IMPRESSION of implant supported bridge suggestion, however clinical procedure of this method is difficult.

Abstract:

Background: The frequency of cardiovascular disease increases with age. DENTAL procedures as stressful triggers may cause unpredictable changes in the function of the cardiovascular system. IMPRESSION is an inevitable DENTAL procedure. Objectives: Since upper jaw IMPRESSION stimulates the sensory terminals of nerves, especially vagus, this study was conducted to evaluate the changes in blood pressure, heart rate, and pulse pressure due to DENTAL IMPRESSION. Methods: This observational study was performed on individuals who referred to the Prosthetic Department of Yazd DENTAL School. The sample wascomposedof 46 individuals, including 26womenand20men, whofulfilled the inclusion criteriaandsigned written consent forms. The severity of gag reflex was measured and just individuals with moderate gag reflex entered the study. IMPRESSION was carried out in the upper jaw in the upright position and rest condition. Blood pressure, pulse rate, and pulse pressure were measured and compared before and immediately after IMPRESSION procedure. Taking into account the significance level of 5%, the test power of 80%, and blood pressure standard deviation of 4, and to achieve a significant difference of at least 2 mmHg in the groups, 46 people were needed in the study. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18 and t test. Results: Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and pulse pressure were measured before and after DENTAL IMPRESSION. The difference between men and women was significant only for pulse pressure at both stages (P = 0. 02). There was also a statistically significant difference in pulse pressure before and after IMPRESSION only in women (P = 0. 049). There was no significant difference in men. Conclusions: Common DENTAL procedures such as IMPRESSION could not significantly alter blood pressure and pulse rate.

Abstract:

Introduction: Various symptoms have been attributed to tooth eruption. Further, parents use different strategies to reduce or eliminate these symptoms. This study was aimed to evaluate parental information about eruption of primary teeth in Isfahan, Iran. Materials & Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted on 100 parents having sixmonth-to three-year-old children referring to the DENTAL clinics or offices in Isfahan. A questionnaire with validated face and content validity was designed to collect data. It included questions about demographic characteristics, eruption time and the first erupted tooth, symptoms of eruption, and control of symptoms. Data were analyzed by frequency distribution, relative frequency, descriptive indices, and chi-square test via SPSS 22. 0. p value < 0. 05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The most frequent symptoms parents agreed with included high tendency to bite and chew, high saliva flow, and gingival inflammation, respectively. Fever was the most frequent symptom the majority of parents disagreed with. The most frequent methods used by the parents included hugging the child and amusing the child. The most frequent disagreement was reported for the use of sleeping drugs. No significant correlation between parental information about tooth eruption and economic status, parental education, parental age, and number of children was found. (p value < 0. 05) The mean score of parental information was 2. 37 ± 0. 97 and degree of response was 96%. Conclusion: Parents’ knowledge about tooth eruption was moderate and acceptable awareness on symptoms of tooth eruption and methods of decreasing the symptoms was found.

Abstract:

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of implant position transfer and surface detail reproduction using two IMPRESSION techniques and materials.Materials and Methods: A metal model with two implants and three grooves of 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 mm in depth on the flat superior surface of a die was fabricated. Ten regular-body polyether (PE) and 10 regular-body polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) IMPRESSIONs with square and conical transfer copings using open tray and closed tray techniques were made for each group. IMPRESSIONs were poured with type IV stone, and linear and angular displacements of the replica heads were evaluated using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). Also, accurate reproduction of the grooves was evaluated by a video measuring machine (VMM). These measurements were compared with the measurements calculated on the reference model that served as control, and the data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and t-test at P=0.05.Results: There was less linear displacement for PVS and less angular displacement for PE in closed-tray technique, and less linear displacement for PE in open tray technique (P<0.001). Also, the open tray technique showed less angular displacement with the use of PVS IMPRESSION material. Detail reproduction accuracy was the same in all the groups (P>0.05).Conclusion: The open tray technique was more accurate using PE, and also both closed tray and open tray techniques had acceptable results with the use of PVS. The choice of IMPRESSION material and technique made no significant difference in surface detail reproduction.
